I am pretty excited about what I have been seeing lately in the Guerrilla Marketing world especially when it comes to the innovation and creativity that is being seen with the not-for-profit campaigns.
They are really making the most bang for there buck and my hat goes off to them. Here are some of the great examples that I have seen recently.
Reach out to a Child with Autism
This one follows along the line of the feed the hungry carts that you may have seen. These bags will do a great job of making heads turn and that is what it’s all about.
Drinking and Driving Bottle Caps
Another great thinking outside of the box idea. Who would ever think to use the bottle cap in this way. I just hope the audience for this is not to intoxicated to see the value of this message.
Unicef Does is Again
This is another one that has a lot of visual impact. Pair that with the blue baby stroller campaign that was done in the Finland.
Guerrilla Toilet Paper
This one is just plain funny. I wish I would have seen this one in person, I can’t help but still laugh at toilet humor. The good thing about doing something in a restroom setting is that your message get the persons undivided attention for a longer period of time.
For more examples check out More Kick A$$ Guerrilla Marketing Promotions Pt 1 Also a special thanks to Hasan for sending some of these examples over to me.

Goddamn greenies
? What on that actually annoyed you?
I think the tree thing might be a bit much, honestly plastic is more of an enviromental risk then paper… but hardly see a problem with it. Heaven forbid we be reminded of the effects of our actions.
Bite me, Digital.
I don’t want someone preaching to me when I’m trying to clean up after a nice long poo. Also, WTF is the TP doing over the sink? I am not going to do my business in the sink.
I am thinking that those are paper towels, not TP.
Ok everyone, lets keep the discussion to the marketing and not have personal attacks. That is not adding anything to the discussion and I really don’t want to have to moderate stuff like this.
I understand the argument that is maybe is not the best place to have to deal with marketing messages. Maybe limits are good, but we have been seeing posters and tv screens in bathroom stalls for years now.
If I saw the drunk driving message in my beer I would go out driving just to spite them
but of course I wouldn’t be drunk, so it wouldn’t matter if I was driving
if I were drunk, which is the situation the message is intended to address, then I wouldn’t really care about what my bottlecap was telling me anyway
Also I’m pretty sure a kid with autism would never do something like the kid on the bag does
little owls coming out of the tree would be funnier.
I just want to know why the toilet tissue is next to the sink. Am I good to drop a deuce down the wash hole should I choose to?
Why do people get so upset about ‘greenies?’ I can’t imagine why someone would be mad and the only reason I can think of is because they want to live in constant denial about our impact with the environment, and are too insecure to face the truth. You are uncomfortable, that’s how people make change. That’s why these marketing techniques are so powerful and why they work. It’s for people like you, so congratulations, you are giving them what they want.
That tree bark dispenser clearly says “tissue”…. Of course it shouldn’t be placed next to the toilet, who uses tissues to wipe their ass?
the toilet paper is next the sink, because its not ” tiolet paper”,
its “paper towels” (you know what i mean). it for drying your hands!
think with some reason before coming up with nasty posts.
the reason everyone hates ‘greenies’ is because they are constantly imposing their will on others, their beliefs not necessarily coming from objective scientific data as they would have you believe but rather from sound-bites they’ve been listening to since they were kids (think of the constant barrage of ‘save the environment – humans are bad’ themes we see in our media, targetting all sectors and all ages)
putting adverts in toilets is invasive, even if we have been seeing it for a while.
Guys, I don’t know if you’re all dense or what exactly. The stuff next to the sink are paper towels. Not toilet paper. I know it’s cool to make fun of the greenies cus all your friends are doing it, but i’m pretty sure they understand where toilet paper goes.
Nice post, thanks
Really quite ingenious thoughts.
just how much energy and materials went into manufacturing that fake tree loo roll dispenser????
I like how you anti greenies are so ignorant that you don’t see how wasting anything is a negative to the environment. You think that we have infinite resources. Thats all there is to it. Self centred and greedy.
“Ill do whatever I want after a nice long poo cuz its OWED to me! I am the centre of the universe!”
I though we were supposed to be discussing bootstrap and viral marketing, not political agendas. If I want that, I’ll just log on to Fox or CNN for heaven’s sake. I think the tree reminds you to use one or two paper towels instead of a whole handful, and there is nothing wrong with that, green or not. It’s a matter of reminding us not to be wasteful.
So can we all please lighten up a bit???
Most of the people that have commented so far are mental midgets with hilariously uninformed/ stupid opinions. Especially Abdullah, there is no such thing as an “objective science”. I suggest you read some Foucault/ Heidegger and try to develop a position that is actually intelligent.
You attack green advertisements for imposing their values on others, but what you fail to recognize is that no form of marketing is value-free, apolitical or neutral. You have come to understand the dominant socio-economic and political structures of industrial capitalism as “normal”, “necessary” and “natural”.
Please stop reading blogs and pick up a book.
Wait, “greenies” forced their “not necessarily scientific” views on YOU?
Hahahahahaha, okay pal. Whatever you say. LOVE the rant about “media programming” as well. Damn those people warning us about bad things while we could still prevent them!
Those BASTARDS!
If you Zoom in and read the article it says “Toilet Tissues”, therefor it is a odd place to mount it above the sink. That being said, Greenies may be pushy with their concepts and thoughts but if they succeed in moving people to be more green it can only positively impact the Earth and all its inhabitants.
Despite all this, the blog post is about guerrilla marketing and from these examples it’s plain to see that it’s not only very creative but also having an impact on its targets. If it wasn’t working, it wouldn’t be out there.
some of these designs are good but the margins are off and i doubt they generate any real profit. id say stick with signs and business cards to generate gross net revenue. im a financial export practicing in lincoln, ca. jordan horn. 916 412 1180.
Hi everyone I agree the discussion is getting a bit of track. There is an obvious impact to the campaigns good or bad green or wasteful. We are all talking about it and the message is getting passed on.
Jordan you are correct no advertising is value free and not for profits have less dollars then the big guys to be able get the most impact for dollars spent. I will stand by the fact that they have more then got the money back with discussions like this.
Please voice opinions, but do it respectfully.
Great Idea
O.K. so, i think that these are, really good forms of advertisement, and a couple will make you think, which means that non profits are defiantly getting their moneys worth.
when you don’t have a lot to spend you have to make it stretch, so i would have to say the bag is really the best of the bit, we are generaly used to being human billboards, why not make sure your message gets to the most people it can, we all read someones bag as they walk by, why not one that’s an advertisement for something good rather then more fluff we really don’t need
Direct quote “the reason everyone hates ‘greenies’ is because they are constantly imposing their will on others, their beliefs not necessarily coming from objective scientific data as they would have you believe but rather from sound-bites they’ve been listening to since they were kids (think of the constant barrage of ’save the environment – humans are bad’ themes we see in our media, targetting all sectors and all ages)”
i Make no comment on religion, which is hardly even pseudo-science!
So….Just a thought here, Barbossa. In europe (correct me if i’m wrong) the “toilette” is not the sh*t bucket. It’s the mirror and sink area. So….um….”toilet paper”= paper of the vanity area????? Maybe they were european, ok?
I have no social judgment to offer or impose. I did find the entire thread amusing. I like the site and subscribed right away. The discussion didn’t seem that ominous and I think it was a pretty typical, really! I am looking forward to more. “Boot-Strapping” is what brought me here.

Firstly, these are amazing ideas, and I love them all.
Secondly, does anyone know if the drinking and driving one could be seen as graffiti? I live in BC, Canada. I tried checking on our bylaw site, but couldn’t find anything pertinent.
This is not about humans being bad its about getting humans to stop being douche bags. The fact is this we are not at war with nature because only a moron would want to ruin an eco-system we depend on to survive because if we die the planet survives however if the planet dies then we die. For instance if the oceans temperature continues to rise it could very well wipe out coral reefs if that were to happen well lets just leave it at we be screwed.
How come so many trolls commented here? Did the short bus make an unprecedented stop?
funny ads, but seriously, unless it’s a joke under my beer cap, i get ferociously angry. i start fuming and sweating and then i chop down a two trees, completely discard one and take the other and turn it into tissue. Then, i use too much of that tissue to dry my hands. To top it all off, i go on the internet and tell people about what they do and don’t know while making broad generalizations about large groups of people. No, im just joking.
did anyone else notice the end of that second paragraph in the dispenser ad? “The tissue roll dispenser became a tree trunk, driving home the fact that ever tissue wasted is a threat to the environment.” It “became” a tree trunk? Internet, this is an outrage. I move to disqualify it from the proceedings as it is obviously possessed and/or magical in nature. No, im just kidding.
But, seriously. We can;t ust go around wasting pieces of toilet paper. You know that shit doesn’t just grow on trees.
It just goes to show you can’t be too careful!
Do you REALLY think I’would NOT empty that bogus tree thing even faster than i usually do, just to show that fu..er that put that ugly piece of furniture in my bathroom to get rid of it.
And let me remind you, the reason why we do dry our hands after washing is that bacteria thrive in damp conditions, especially hands, and especially after being in the bathroom. It’s _not_ because it is so extremely amusing.
You Greenies are all the same.
ONE silly agenda.
Never mind hygiene and our everyday surroundings! As long as it’s something treehuggerish it’s always a good thing. Right?
The Unicef window is heartbreaking. I guess that’s the point.
Wow. I’d hate to tell you what I think about in the bathroom…
Hardy-har. I forgot what everyone was talking about by the time I got to the last post. If I wasn’t procrastinating writing a paper I wouldn’t have read the ridiculous argument above…
‘Greenie’…that’s a new one.
One could argue that every subculture and even mildly influenced political opinion has it’s buzzwords and slogans and that each has its own mindless autonomotons.
As for the ‘objective science’ comment. In theory, all science, in its most ideological sense, should be objective. Obvioulsy, people are capable of making mistakes (like causing permanant damage to ecosystems that they require to survive) but that should not be enough to codemn science, which is essentially a system for determining truth. I think most people would agree that truth is a good thing.
Ok…back to writing my paper. I hope my teacher recycles it….
You guys are such assholes. why do you have to get pissed when someone tries to remind you to help out a bit (mainly directed at ted). if people didnt make a point to remind you of the fact that we are using up our natural resources and try to remind you not to drunk drive, then would anyone really know? I am especially annoyed that because you dont approve of the one “toilet paper” dispenser (which the author clearly mislabeled, you have to bash the whole list. you should start looking at the bigger picture and start appreciating what people are trying to do to help out, and remind other people to help out.
Guys, yes I admit I put the wrong label on the ad, It is paper towel and not toilet paper. The point is it is innovative and green or not I have seen way to many people pull our 5 sheets of paper towel to dry hands and then look at the paper all over the floor because of the excess use of it. I don’t think your have to be an environmentalist to be disgusted by being wasteful.

mrs. stacy, you have an interesting definition of pissed. I was poking fun, it didn’t make me angry, neither did the other ads, i really did enjoy them. But you’re right about one thing: if people weren’t reminding me that driving while drunk was a bad idea, i would be out unintentionally running over small animals and disregarding the welfare of the common pedestrian in a drunken gusto! In fact, this one time i was about to shoot up some heroin, but then my friend was all like, “really?” and i was like, “yeah, i guess i shouldn’t.” boy, was that almost a disaster! good thing someone was there to remind me.
p.s. this may come across as angry again, i don’t know, i’m just a guy. if so, read again but with a lighter tone. if that does not work, consult the packaging it came in, or call our toll free number.

Those are all very clever. I need gold ideas like that.
I think this is boot strapping at it’s finest. Being a start up non profit it gives me ideas to add more value to my organization by using creativity instead of dollars to get my message accross. I’ll come back to bounce some ideas off the wall if I can. Thanks
