Cash fairly slow coming in? Need some extra resources to promote your next big idea but don’t have the funding for advertising? Well, you are in luck! You have anywhere from 2-2,000+ people willing to advertise for you! How and Who you might ask? Your friends and family. If they are good friends, or good family members, most already love talking about what you do, and only need that extra little BOOST to get the word out even more. And best of all, it doesn’t cost you a thing in the beginning (after sales are made through them, buy them dinner or something. Let them know they are appreciated. After-all, they are sticking their neck out there for you without the promise of any kind of reward in most cases). Here’s some ways to help them get the word out faster, and make it easier on them, which in turn makes it easier on you.

Whenever you are talking to friends or family about your business, or the ideas you have for your business, 99.9% of the time they will be interested. Always remember that a genuinely interested seller has a significently higher chance of generating sales then someone who is merely going through the motions. You can turn that interest, into a powerful selling machine by doing the following.

  1. Hand over the business cards. You should have a HUGE stack of these lying around, and if you don’t, well, shame on you! Go get some business cards now, and get 50 or so to every friend or family member you know. Even if your mother only passes them on to friends who have a daughter she thinks you would be interested in, you never know if that friend has a relative with their own business but no website, or if they are too busy to clean their own home, and your cleaning service would be right for them. Business cards are a key factor in any business, and by giving your friends and family cards to pass out, it takes the burden off their shoulders to remember EVERYTHING about your business and your contact details as well. And well, lets face it, your mother passing along a business card to a co-worker is far more professional in appearance compared to her writing it down on a napkin at lunch.
  2. Your little sister or brother hangs out on myspace or other social networking websites a lot? Send them a message about your business or your current game/video website and make it look FUN. 9 times out of 10, your sister/brother will pass this along to everyone on their friends list, post bulletins, add a banner or link on their page and so on. Thus, creating more FREE advertising, and by you sending them everything to begin with, all they have to do is copy and paste instead of explaining it over and over to 100-1000 friends.
  3. After a lot of enthusiasm is shown for promoting your business, go ahead and throw some incentives to help keep that fire burning. Your mother got you a sale? Buy her some flowers. Your dad or brother got you a sale? Take them out for a drink or to a ballgame. Your friend got you a sale? take them shopping or purchase that new game/dvd they’ve been wanting. Trust us, it will be well worth it in the long run.
